about me
I was raised and currently live in Mauritius, an island off the east coast of Africa.
I have been described as Anglo-Mauritian and I use the term myself. On paper, at least, it is correct: I have an English father, I was born in London due to myriad medical problems that couldn’t, even in 1992, be treated in the country. But I arrived in Mauritius when I was a month old (yes, seriously) and haven’t lived abroad except for the time I spent at university.
Anyway. I’m a writer. I’ve published a number of essays and a sliver of short stories so far. When the country is in crisis I also work as a freelance journalist for news organisations abroad.
I’m the kind of writer who *loves* research. I often have to remove considerable amounts of historical context from my work because my already-lengthy pieces would be too long (and overwhelming to read). So I thought it’d be nice to have another, less formal place to share what I’m interested in.
